RCMP Dog Training Facility
The RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre was established at Innisfail, Alberta in 1965. RCMP Police Dog Services only uses purebred German shepherds for General Duty teams. In addition to being in perfect physical condition, they must have particular personality traits which make them suitable for police work: even temperament, hunting instinct and sound character are essential. Other breeds may be used for Specialty Detection teams. The RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre has three core functions:
- Breeding quality working dogs
- Training of dog teams
- Annual validation of dog teams
To see it firsthand, stop by the Centre. Public demonstrations are conducted every Wednesday afternoon between Victoria Day and Labour Day. We begin at 2 p.m. The demonstration lasts approximately 45 minutes and is free of charge.
