Cronquist House

This historic Victorian House was built in 1912 by Swedish immigrants Emmanuel & Hilda Cronquist. To avoid being demolished, the House was moved in 1976 to it’s current location at Bower Ponds. The Red Deer Cultural Heritage Society has operated the House since 1976 and it is used as a Tea House and for private rentals. The Cronquist House is a landmark of Red Deer and is used in many promotional ads for the city. The house offers tours and information about the history of House during the Tea House hours.

Come for tea or lunch in a charming Victorian room overlooking the pond. Tuesday to Friday from 11 to 5, enjoy a delightful lunch of delicious salads, sandwiches, homemade soups and desserts, including scones with Devonshire cream and jam. Daily specials are also offered. The prices are very reasonable and you won’t find a charming experience like it anywhere else in town. We recommend calling 403.346.0055 to see if the House is not closed that day for a private booking.

Private Bookings

You can book this special venue for conferences, meetings, weddings and many other kinds of special occasions, anytime of the year. The House is beautifully decorated for Christmas and is a wonderful spot for Christmas parties (max. 45 people).

Celebrate Canada Day

The Cultural Heritage Society that operates Cronquist House also uses this lovely site by Bower Ponds to host Red Deer’s big Canada Day festivities each year. Celebrating the city’s many multicultural communities, the event features ethnic musicians, dancers and storytellers, face painting for the kids, lots of yummy food and a jaw-dropping fireworks display at the end of the day.

Spend the afternoon on Bower Ponds

After lunch, take a quiet walk through the park’s new serenity garden, let the kids play in the renovated playground and admire the public art. The pavilion has a concession, a floating stage and paddle boat, kayak and canoe rentals throughout the summer – so you can get out on the pond and up close to those cute little duckies.
